North Buncombe High School welding teacher Darryl Fox is sparking curiosity in his students, and helping them toward a bright future.

WLOS-TV gave its viewers a look at the hands-on learning happening inside his class, as reporter Karen Wynne showcased Mr. Fox on her weekly “Thanks to Teachers” segment. It was her first time spotlighting a welding teacher in the feature.
“Some students come in with a plan to get into a technical program and go into the workforce, others use their knowledge here to go on to get a degree in Engineering,” said Mr. Fox, who is also the current Buncombe County Schools Teacher of the Year. “Other students just want to sample what welding is like, and after this class they discover it’s something they really enjoy, and it opens up a world of possibilities.”

BCS will be highlighting more activities from Buncombe County Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms throughout February to commemorate National CTE Month.
