Ms. Plemmons sits in front of a classroom in a chair, as third graders site on the floor listening to her speak

“What is your platform?” “Where do you do your work?” “Do you have any pets?” No questions were off limits, as curious Johnston Elementary 3rd graders interviewed Buncombe County Board of Education member Kim Plemmons.

A student raises his hand waiting for his turn to ask a questionWhile Ms. Plemmons is often found visiting classrooms, she was at the center of the lesson Friday, as students studied how government works and the role of elected officials. The students asked about elections, school budgets, and how the school board interacts with other local and state officials.

“I enjoyed my work in the banking industry, but being your school board representative is the best job I’ve ever had,” Ms. Plemmons shared. “Being in classrooms like this is my favorite part.”

The kids were delighted to hear Ms. Plemmons has a 115 pound rottweiler who loves to sit on her lap each evening.
