Last school year, A.C. Reynolds High School students in the Childhood Development program put their creativity to work in a meaningful way - by becoming authors for some of the youngest learners in the Reynolds District.

The high schoolers wrote and illustrated original children’s books designed especially for kindergarteners at Haw Creek Elementary. Each story combined simple language with colorful pictures, bringing imaginative characters and fun adventures to life that inspired young minds.

When the books were finished, the Reynolds students visited Haw Creek classrooms to share their stories in person. Kindergarteners listened intently as the “big kids” read aloud from the books they had created, giggling at funny moments and asking questions about the characters. The visits ended with each class receiving a copy of the book to keep, sparking excitement for reading.

The project not only gave high-school students hands-on experience in child development and literacy education, but also built a special bond between the two schools. It showed Reynolds students the impact they can make as future educators and role models, while giving the Haw Creek kindergarteners a joyful introduction to the world of storytelling.
