Weaverville Elementary School celebrated student leadership and community engagement with its annual Leadership Day, inviting parents to participate in a day filled with student-led activities, presentations, and a school-wide picnic.
The event began with the opening ceremony facilitated by the school’s student Lighthouse Teams, who each played an essential role in the program. Highlights included the school chorus performing the school song, students reciting poetry, and an introduction to the school-wide service project: “Pennies for Pups.”
Through the “Pennies for Pups” project, students aim to raise funds to purchase Battle Pups, therapeutic stuffed animals designed to provide comfort to children during times of trauma. The cause holds special meaning for Weaverville students, who received Battle Pups themselves after experiencing the impact of Hurricane Helene.
Students also shared reflections on what it means to be a leader and how they apply leadership skills throughout their daily responsibilities, such as student jobs and club roles.
Following the ceremony, parents and guests were invited to explore stations throughout the school, where students had set up booths and displays. In the cafeteria, student-led presentations highlighted various clubs and leadership roles within the school, showcasing the wide range of opportunities available to students.
The day concluded with a festive school-wide picnic on the playground, bringing together students, staff, and families to celebrate the spirit of student leadership.
