Students stare at glass art in exhibit

The Asheville Art Museum opened its doors an hour early for some special art connoisseurs - Pisgah Elementary’s Art Club. These young aesthetes were enthralled and delighted by the various pieces of local art on display, led on tour by the docents. The art included everything from hand-blown glass to large paintings, mixed-media projects, sculptures, photography, and more. They even got to finish their tour of the museum by creating art themselves and learning about print-making.

“The students had a wonderful time,” said teacher and art club supervisor Jamileh Mikati. “It’s wonderful to see their faces light up, the joy they get from the art.”

The art club is fairly new at Pisgah but is very popular. They meet once a month on special Fridays where students get to do special interest groups. On top of a robust art curriculum in their regular classes, these art club students get to enjoy and talk about art with their peers, learn even more about the different kinds of art techniques and styles, and special trips such as to the art museum.
