Students and families help themselves to some thanksgiving staples

Some students at Owen High had a special Thanksgiving luncheon with their parents, teachers and administrators - even superintendent Dr. Jackson and Associate Superintendent Dr. Jamie Johnson, Assistant Superintendent Joe Hough, as well as district chair Peggy Buchanan, joined in to pay thanks and break bread. This luncheon has been supported for many years by the Goforth family. First by Mr. Bill Goforth and after his passing his son Mike who, through his work at Ingles, brings this Thanksgiving Feast every year in his father’s memory.

“Mr. Goforth did a lot of work for Buncombe County Schools,” said Mr. J.D. Hinson, special education teacher at Owen High. “We want to keep that legacy going by continuing this thanksgiving meal.”

With all the Thanksgiving fixins, including turkey, gravy, ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, deviled eggs, and some pumpkin pie, everyone left with their bellies full, smiles on their faces and something to be thankful for.
