Listening and Learning: Cane Creek Middle

Looking back on Dr. Jackson's trip to Cane Creek Middle as part of his listening and learning tour for #45Schoolsin45Days

Cane Creek Middle School (CCMS) is a public middle school for grades 6-8 located in Fletcher, NC. Cane Creek serves two school districts (Reynolds and Roberson) and is located in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. CCMS first opened its doors in 2000, and over 20 years later is still serving students in the community. With 448 students and 55 staff located on a spacious lot, surrounded by nature and the eponymous Cane Creek itself, CCMS offers a supportive and expansive curriculum that incorporates outdoor learning into its strong academics, arts, robotics, and sports programs. CCMS offers clubs such as ski, swim, running, and soccer, exceeds academic growth in state testing, and is full of highly qualified, dedicated educators that go above and beyond every day. The philosophy of Cane Creek Middle School is to promote optimum growth for each child, faculty, and staff member by meeting the challenges of an ever-changing world.

“At Cane Creek Middle School, it is known as ‘The Cane Creek Way,’” says principal Andrea Britt. “We are a tight-knit community and come together to support each other through the highs and the lows. There isn't a need or time that has presented itself this past year that wasn't taken care of by the school community in some form or fashion. The outpouring of support for our students and teachers is astounding. Our school community, in conjunction with a strong PTA, works to build a school that is welcoming, offers guidance, and works together to build a sense of belonging.”
