Listening and Learning: Hominy Valley Elementary

Looking back at Dr. Jackson's trip to Hominy Valley Elementary as part of his #45schoolsin45days tour.

Hominy Valley Elementary (HVE) opened in the year 2000 with a 65,000 sq. ft. building that has become a prototype for other BCS school buildings, such as North Windy Ridge Intermediate. A beloved school of the Candler community, Hominy Valley Elementary serves 442 students with 72 dedicated staff.

The school prides itself on its engagement with the community and its dedication to its students, providing a warm and inviting environment. Their dedicated educators love their students and work diligently to meet each child’s social, emotional and academic needs. Their specialists and support staff provide various enrichment and educational opportunities for all types of learners to meet the needs of each and every child that walks through their doors, every day.

“Hominy Valley has an abundance of support from parents, teachers, staff and the community,” said principal Jeannan Yates. “Supportive relationships are the heart of this school. This enables our students from diverse cultural backgrounds as well as all of our students to feel welcome and empowered to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and caring environment. Hominy Valley focuses on the whole child, and teachers and staff go above and beyond to meet the various student needs.”
