Listening and Learning

Here's a look back at Dr. Rob Jackson's 37th school visit as part of his #45Schoolsin45Days Tour. North Windy Ridge Intermediate (NWRI) opened its doors in 2002. It is the first of four intermediate schools in Buncombe County and a model school across the state in the at the time new Intermediate School concept. After 20 years, NWRI is still going strong with 486 students and 65 dedicated staff members serving the North Buncombe District.

The school offers students exploratory classes such as PE, Band, Strings, Art, Music, Technology, STEM, Spanish, and Media. It has a strong community and culture with committed families, students, faculty, and staff.

“When a family chooses NWRI, they are choosing for their child to be in a positive and nurturing learning environment,” said principal Doris Sellers. “Our commitment is to help students grow and learn the HAWKS way academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. Intermediate School is unique because we are an in-between setting from elementary to middle school. We have our students for two years and we work to get to know them in their own unique ways and we want to challenge, support, and empower them to be lifelong learners.”
