Below are the Superintendent's Comments:

Good evening Parents, Members of the Community, Board Members, and Teammates,

I am incredibly excited about the opportunity we will have in just a few moments to recognize amazing teachers from each of our schools. These teachers are exemplars of the incredible teachers and faculty members throughout our school system. As we rightfully celebrate and honor them, by extension, we celebrate every teacher and faculty member throughout our school system.

National Assistant Principals Week was officially last week as we were away from school for Spring Break. We would also like to celebrate and honor the dedicated men and women who serve in these vital roles. A sometimes thankless job filled with bus schedules, building operations, and pitching in wherever needed, our schools depend on their service in more ways than we could ever name. Thank you to each of our Assistant Principals for your tireless dedication to students, teachers, staff, parents, and the community. We appreciate you!

We would like to offer congratulations to our High Schools for earning re-accreditation during the month of April. The process of Accreditation is rigorous as schools are examined for their continuous progress procedures and for their student success results. Thank you to all the school teams who were involved in this process and again congratulations!

The Superintendent's Listening and Learning Adventure is winding to a close. To date, I have now completed 43 of 45 full day school visits. The visits were each wonderful. I left amazed at the work of teachers and staff and appreciative of the hard work of our students. The atmosphere of each of our schools feels warm and caring. I am extremely grateful to the principals, teachers, students, and staff members who have warmly welcomed me and have endeavored to help me understand and experience the strengths and challenges of each individual school. At next month’s School Board Meeting, I will present what I have learned about our school system and our schools, our points-of-pride and our opportunities for growth. I am looking forward to sharing with our Board, our team, and our community what i have learned.

One thing I have learned and one thing we know is that students, families, and the community have never needed a strong, loving, and caring school system as much as they do now. We accept this challenge. We commit to each and every one of our students. We will elevate to new and majestic heights. We will give our all because our students are worthy of our very best efforts.

To our team and to our Board Members, Thank you for all that you do for the students, families, teachers, and staff of Buncombe County Schools.

Madam Chair, this concludes my comments.
