Three BCCI students host a panel discussion.

💡 From vision boards to panel discussions and hands-on projects, students at Buncombe County Center for Career Innovation (BCCI) had the chance to lead, inspire, and shine during their second annual BCCI Showcase last week.

The student-run event at the A-B Tech Conference Center was a celebration of current students, a recruitment drive for future students, a reflection, and a look ahead. Dozens of eighth graders from across Buncombe County gathered to hear from BCCI students about the school’s Career Pathways, a unique program that helps students explore professional fields like health care, law enforcement, business, and skilled trades through real-world experiences and internships.

“It’s not just about choosing a career; it’s about knowing it’s okay to change your mind and getting support every step of the way,” said first-year student Khloe, who is pursuing the Professional Services pathway with an interest in forensics or CSI work. “They help you meet the right people and figure out what you’re meant to do.”

The showcase featured stations where students presented their individual career projects, outlined future goals, and described the classes and certifications they’re working toward, often inspired by job shadowing experiences and career interviews.

“The best part is that this whole event was created by the students,” said teacher Walden Corry. “They put hours of work into designing this showcase as a way to represent their experience and show other students what BCCI can offer. It’s a true student-led initiative.”

Recruitment is now underway for next year’s cohort of students, with a mission to provide personalized support, career preparation, and meaningful learning opportunities for young people across the district. Find out more.
