Listening and Learning

Sand Hill-Venable Elementary was Dr. Jackson’s 16th stop as he soars through his daylong visits of our schools. Sand Hill-Venable opened in 1993 after the communities of Sand Hill School and Venable School merged into a new building. The school, located in the Enka district, serves just under 550 students with 116 staff members.

Sand Hill-Venable is dedicated to school success and lifelong learning through the positive interaction of home, school, and community. The school has a diverse community of students who represent 19 different countries from around the world. This rich cultural diversity is one of the most unique things about the school, and they celebrate their families each year with their annual Community Night event.

“Over the course of our 30 years, we have grown and changed in a way that reflects our changing community,” said Principal Tyla Moody. “Sand Hill-Venable is a uniquely diverse community of staff and students who work together each day to build a warm, welcoming, and safe environment. We have a dedicated and committed staff that come together each day to do the hard work of helping students be the best versions of themselves.”
