celebrating educators!

Buncombe County Schools Foundation (BCSF) celebrated educators at a special gathering on Tuesday, May 3. Teachers of the Year, Principals of the Year, and Counselors and Social Workers of the Year were recognized. BCS Foundation Grant Winners were announced, and the new SMART Scholars Program was launched. The SMART Scholars program provides scholarships for students who pursue a skilled trade degree/certification at a two or four-year college. Finally, the inaugural class of the Learning Society was revealed. Membership in the Learning Society starts with a $1,000 contribution to help our students and educators. Larger donations are much appreciated.

“These young people are our future,” says BCS Foundation Director Christy Cheek. “We need everyone who understands the value of education to join us, to make our students’ dreams a reality. The Foundation believes that education is key to success not only academically but to the future engagement of our students in our community. Your donation will ensure that our students have the dedicated resources they need to grow and learn so they can attend college and become career and community-ready.”

Additionally, the Buncombe County Schools Foundation provided two rounds of grants to educators in Buncombe County Schools this year. Over 125 educators applied for grants with requests totaling $132,000. This year, 35 grants were awarded totaling $35,000.
