Kindergarten students at Johnston Elementary School started their day with big smiles, quality time with their families and some very special new friends during the school’s annual Teddy Bear Breakfast.

Families joined their kindergarteners for a morning filled with fun and teddy bear-themed activities. The beloved tradition gives families a chance to spend time together at school while helping students build lasting connections with their classmates, teachers and school community.
Of course, the highlight for many students was meeting their new teddy bear! But the event is about so much more than a cuddly new friend. Each bear becomes a comforting companion that students can turn to throughout their kindergarten year, offering a little extra reassurance as they learn, grow and experience all the excitement of their first year of school.

The classroom bears will be there whenever students need a little extra comfort or encouragement. Whether they need a hug, a partner to read a book with or a friend to help them work through a math problem, their teddy bears will be ready to help.
“I love my teddy bear,” said one kindergartener.

The bears were generously donated by Alan and Tonia Sheppard of Alan’s Jewelry and Pawn, who continue to make this tradition possible for Johnston Elementary students.
“We’ve always been willing to help children,” said Mrs. Sheppard. “It’s important to give back to the children in this community, and we love doing this each year.”
Students also received a special visit from Ted E. Tourist of the Asheville Tourists, who joined in the fun and helped make the morning even more memorable.
