As the school year winds down, students at North Windy Ridge Intermediate School had one last special assignment - gathering to celebrate their teacher, Marilynn Whitcher, as the Buncombe County Schools Elementary Math Teacher of the Year.
Principal Mary Nichols had students gathered in the hall, as the BCS math coaches came around the corner and surprised her.
“I am very honored,” Ms. Whitcher shared. “I’ve been teaching math for 18 years, and I never get tired of seeing students’ fear of math turn into a love of math.”
Teachers are nominated for the award for their dedication to their students and their leadership among their peers. Congratulations, Ms. Whitcher!
