Students in the Dual Language classes at W.D. Williams Elementary celebrated United Nations Spanish Language Day by dressing up and stepping out on stage.
Families clapped along as students from multiple grade levels performed songs and traditional dances representing cultures from across the Spanish-speaking world. Students introduced each segment of the program in both English and Spanish.
“This is what our program is all about—giving students the chance to use Spanish in authentic and exciting ways,” said principal Christy Jones. “They’ve been preparing for weeks, and it’s wonderful to see their hard work come together.”
Spanish Language Day, observed annually by the United Nations, highlights the importance of multilingualism and cultural history. For students in the dual language program, the celebration offered a meaningful opportunity to apply their language skills in a real-world, joyful setting.
In addition to W.D. Williams, BCS offers the Dual Language program at Avery’s Creek, Candler, Glen Arden, North Buncombe, and West Buncombe elementary schools. It will expand to Sand Hill-Venable Elementary in August 2026. Click here to get more information and to apply.
