Students in the Dual Language classes at W.D. Williams Elementary celebrated United Nations Spanish Language Day by dressing up and stepping out on stage. 

Families clapped along as students from multiple grade levels performed songs and traditional dances representing cultures from across the Spanish-speaking world. Students introduced each segment of the program in both English and Spanish. 

Two girls in colorful dresses prepare to run and take their spots on stage.“This is what our program is all about—giving students the chance to use Spanish in authentic and exciting ways,” said principal Christy Jones. “They’ve been preparing for weeks, and it’s wonderful to see their hard work come together.”

For students in the dual language program, the celebration offered a meaningful opportunity to apply their language skills in a real-world, joyful setting.

Williams, BCS offers the Dual Language program at Avery’s Creek, Candler, Glen Arden, North Buncombe, and West Buncombe elementary schools.
