Students at Candler Elementary School traveled the world without ever leaving campus during the school’s annual Global Day, a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and collaboration.

The event marked the culmination of weeks of study, with each grade level exploring a different continent and individual classes diving deep into specific countries. Through projects like dioramas, essays, comic books, slide presentations, and artwork, students brought their learning to life while gaining a deeper understanding of global cultures.

“Rich interactions between students of multiple grade levels made it a unique learning experience,” said music teacher Peter Wilbur. “I’m proud of all the hard work by students, families, and staff.”

Classes rotated throughout the school, visiting and hosting one another in a dynamic exchange of ideas and traditions. These peer-to-peer interactions across grade levels created a unique and engaging learning experience.

The day culminated in a schoolwide music and dance showcase featuring every student. The performances ranged from African welcome songs to Chinese lullabies to Aboriginal Australian music to Appalachian folk traditions rooted in North Carolina.

Families visited that evening to experience the projects firsthand, giving students the opportunity to proudly share their learning and celebrate cultures from across the globe.
