Often, students visit Raleigh to see the workings of state government. A special group from West Buncombe Elementary were actually participants in official government business at the North Carolina State Board of Education. The West Buncombe delegation was invited for the State Board’s “Special Recognitions.”
As we’ve shared, the school was honored by the Distinguished Schools Program of the National Association of Elementary and Secondary Education Act State Program Administrators (NAESPA). Each year NAESPA recognizes schools that receive federal funding for positive educational advances and outstanding student achievement. West Buncombe was celebrated for excellence in serving special student populations
At its meeting March 5, the State Board of Education honored West Buncombe for the school’s achievement. Four students shared with State Superintendent Mo Green and the board members about what they like most about their school (“learning about history,” “reading,” “my principal”). Then, all the Eagles in attendance joined the Board for a group photo.
In addition to the students, the West Buncombe Delegation included principal Brad Johnson, assistant principal Lori McCurry, and teachers Brittany Hensley, Mike Martin, and Lisa Rhodarmer, along with BCS Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson.
