Laughter, creativity, and the sweet smell of frosting filled the room as Buncombe County Schools Virtual Academy (BCSVA) students came together for a hands-on holiday tradition - building gingerbread houses side by side.

Although many of the students learn online, this special in-person gathering gave them a chance to connect beyond their screens. Armed with graham crackers, icing, and plenty of colorful candy, students worked together to design and build festive homes, each one as unique as the students creating them.
Along the way, there were plenty of smiles and a little extra sugar enjoyed as students sampled their supplies and shared ideas with friends. The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and conversation, turning a simple holiday craft into a meaningful opportunity for connection.

By the end of the event, tables were lined with cheerful gingerbread creations - and students left with more than just sweet treats. They took home memories of collaboration, laughter, and a reminder that even in a virtual learning environment, community is still at the heart of BCSVA.
