Appalachian Santa reads "The Polar Express" to PEP students.

🚂❄️☕ Students and staff from the Progressive Education Program (PEP) came together for a joyful Polar Express Holiday Celebration, marking the first time in several years the entire PEP community was able to gather during the school day for a shared celebration.

Held at the PEP gym, the event featured hot cocoa, snacks, music, and a special visit from Appalachian Santa, who read “The Polar Express” to eager students. Teachers and assistants, peer tutors, and transportation staff all participated in the event, reinforcing a sense of connection across PEP’s three campuses.

“One of the most important things for our students is having opportunities to feel like their peers and to experience a sense of belonging,” said PEP Principal Dr. Thea Wilson. “This celebration allows our students to feel cherished, included, and celebrated in ways that are accessible to them.”

The afternoon offered a meaningful opportunity to build community, celebrate the season, and ensure that all students could experience joyful traditions in an accessible, welcoming environment.
