Koontz Intermediate School’s Canaan Frisby has been named the Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by NC SHAPE, the North Carolina Society for Health and Physical Education.
“We are proud to recognize Mr. Frisby for his singular efforts in creating a fantastic physical education program for the students of Koontz Intermediate,” said NC SHAPE President Dr. Teri Schlosser. “The individuals selected as Physical Education Teachers of the Year reflect the highest quality of professional excellence and dedication.”
Mr. Frisby is a “homegrown” BCS educator, graduating from North Buncombe High School and returning to teach after college. He’s served students since 2018 at the Progressive Education Program and Johnston Elementary before coming to Koontz in 2023.
“I want to thank my amazing students,” Mr. Frisby shared. “They come in ready to learn and engage in lessons every day. I’m also appreciative of the many mentors and colleagues over the years that have helped guide me on my path.”
