Charles D. Owen High School gathered in the spirit of gratitude on Tuesday, November 25, as students, families, staff, alumni, and community members shared in the school’s annual Thanksgiving lunch. What began years ago as a heartfelt gesture from the late Bill Goforth has grown into one of the Warhorses’ most cherished traditions - one that honors his legacy of generosity and community.

Mr. Goforth deeply believed in supporting Buncombe County Schools and making sure students and staff felt cared for, especially during the holiday season. After his passing, his son Mike Goforth proudly stepped forward to continue what his father started. Thanks to his ongoing commitment - and generous partnership with Ingles - Owen High was once again able to serve a warm, Thanksgiving meal complete with turkey, ham, and all the classics that make the season special.
A highlight of this year’s celebration was the dedication of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) students from Ashley Beauregard’s Family and Consumer Science class, who volunteered to serve guests through the buffet line. With warm smiles and a spirit of hospitality, they greeted guests, helped fill plates, and ensured the line moved smoothly.

Throughout the lunch, the media center was filled with meaningful conversation and the warmth of connection. Current students enjoyed lunch beside proud alumni, teachers, families, and central service staff - including the Superintendents.
The spirit of giving didn’t stop there. Later that evening Extend 1 teacher J.D. Hinson and his wife continued the day’s mission of kindness by handing out Thanksgiving food to students at home, ensuring that the support reached beyond the school walls.
At Owen High, Thanksgiving isn’t just a meal - it’s a reminder that community, generosity, and tradition make the Warhorse family stronger every year.
