Members of two Buncombe County Schools FFA programs are ready to help you deck your halls. Both North Buncombe and A.C. Reynolds High Schools are operating Christmas tree lots this season, giving students a chance to use what they’ve learned in class while also spreading some holiday cheer.
The North Buncombe tree lot has returned in front of the Weaverville Bojangles at 164 Weaver Blvd. in partnership with the North Buncombe Optimist Club. Proceeds support FFA and Optimist programs and scholarships.
“This is a great way for our students to take what they’ve learned out in the community,” said North Buncombe FFA advisor and teacher Justin Gillespie.
The lot is open through Dec. 14 from 3:15 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. weekdays, 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Sundays.
“I think it’s great for high school students to work with the community and build a relationship with customers,” said FFA member Hayden Jamerson. “People come up, we can help them find the perfect tree, help get it on their car, and help them have a happy holiday.”
A.C. Reynolds Agriculture teacher Elijah Frisby is a North Buncombe graduate. It’s the first year Reynolds FFA students have operated a Christmas tree lot.
“As a former member of North Buncombe FFA, I was able to see first hand how powerful getting a real tree for Christmas is, and the joy it can bring to a family for the holiday season,” Mr. Frisby said. “Providing this opportunity in the Reynolds community helps us continue to get the word out about our agriculture education and FFA programs, while also sharing some joy throughout the holiday season.”
You’ll find the Reynolds tree lot at Sales Farms and Greenhouses at 25 Sales Farm Drive, just off Highway 74-A about a half mile east of the school. It’s open from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Nov. 26 - Nov. 29, and 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Nov. 30. Trees will continue to be on sale after school Dec. 1 - Dec. 5 from 3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the Reynolds tree lot support FFA programs and activities to provide more real-world learning opportunities for students.
Both lots accept cash and checks.
