Glen Arden Elementary principal Jamie Slagle was surprised at the fourth grade awards and promotion ceremony, when she was announced as the winner of the first award.
After BCS Associate Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Reed welcomed students and families, she invited Cub Scout leaders on stage to present Mrs. Slagle with the Elbert K. Fretwell Award for Outstanding Educators.
“The award honors educators who represent the values of the Cub Scout in students,” said James Hylemon, district director of the Daniel Boone Council of Scouting America. “She has a positive impact on our scouts and all the students here.”
The award is named for Dr. Elbert K. Fretwell, an education professor at Columbia University. He championed Scouting programs as extracurricular learning activities that promote positive values and community service.
