mental health day

Students and staff at A.C. Reynolds Middle School took an important brain break during the last few weeks of school to highlight the importance of maintaining good mental health practices.

The Student Leadership Committee recognized the importance of mental health, especially during stressful times of our lives. The students designed an afternoon to create community and learn coping skills.

“They worked along with me and Leadership Asheville to gather 24 volunteer practitioners to educate the students on how they can manage their stress,” said School Counselor Kristin Keliher. “The hope was to start a conversation about mental health, provide concrete skills and resources, and give students a chance to be with their community taking care of themselves and each other.”

The students also selected two community self-care activities to participate in: reading, dancing, games, outside games, crafts, and coloring pages.
