Erwin students in front of the national monument

Thirty-Two Clyde A. Erwin High School (CAEHS) students got to go on a trip to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., thanks to the school’s Social Studies program. They experienced all of our national treasures- the Jefferson, Lincoln, and Washington monuments, the FDR memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the National Archives, the Holocaust Museum, the Smithsonian Natural History and American History Museums, the Iwo Jima memorial, and photos in front of the White House. They got a VIP tour of the capital and got to visit Congressman Chuck Edwards’ office. Students were immersed in American history, getting hands-on experience to support their Social Studies lessons in a tangible way.

"Seeing these students really connect with our nation's history and be inspired by the beliefs and principles our country has been founded on has really opened my eyes to just how important trips like these are for our students,” said Social Studies chair at CAEHS, Brian Gonzales. “I am looking forward to working on finding funds to make these trips annual events for our students."

"It was very interesting to learn about the history of our country and what we have done to commemorate it for more people to continue to learn about,” said student Ruby Prindle. “I really enjoyed the trip and everything that I got to learn about and experience!"

"Seeing all the monuments and buildings helped me connect what we learned in class to the real world!" said student Jaden Melton.
