It was an exciting day at Weaverville Primary School (WVPS) as North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper visited on a statewide education advocacy tour.
Kindergarteners and first graders lined the hallways with drawings showing North Carolina pride while student tour guides led Gov. Cooper to kindergarten and first grade classrooms. He shook hands and spoke with WVPS teachers and staff, Buncombe County Commissioners, Buncombe County Board of Education members, and Weaverville Town Council members. After the tour, Gov. Cooper spoke about the value of public education in the school’s media center.
“I’m grateful for all of the school personnel throughout the state who are doing what needs to be done to make sure that children across North Carolina get a fantastic public education,” Gov. Cooper said.
“Opportunity happens in our public schools,” added BCS Superintendent Dr. Robert Jackson. “So many of us are where we are because we can name a teacher, a bus driver, a cafeteria worker, someone in the office, who loved us and cared for us and pushed us to succeed. Our public schools have done and continue to do an amazing job making sure our state continues to be great. We are where we are as a state because of our public schools.”
