BCS Superintendent Dr. Robert Jackson has been named to the Western Carolina University (WCU) College of Education and Allied Professions’ Honor Roll of Peak Performers.

The honor roll recognizes alumni of the college who have distinguished themselves in their professions and who serve as role models for current students. The college recognized Dr. Jackson during an awards ceremony at WCU’s Ramsey Regional Activity Center on April 24.

“I have been very blessed to serve students and families across our beautiful state,” Dr. Jackson said. “In each opportunity, I was and am surrounded by amazing educators who give deeply of themselves. My career reflects the incredible foundation I received in earning two degrees from Western Carolina University. I am a proud Catamount and am forever indebted to the WCU faculty who poured into me and made possible my dream of serving as an educator. Western Carolina University has a proud heritage as a Teachers College, a legacy that I witness continue to grow as I observe the many WCU graduates serving in our school system, making possible a new generation of dreams.”

A native of Buncombe County, Dr. Jackson has served in administrative capacities in five public school districts across North Carolina. He has received multiple prior recognitions for his leadership, including being named the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Superintendent of the Year, a Dr. Sam Houston Superintendent Leadership Award recipient, and the Dr. Brad Sneeden Superintendent Leadership Award winner from the North Carolina School Superintendent Association. Dr. Jackson was also honored as the 2011 Wells-Fargo North Carolina State Principal of the Year and as the North Carolina High School Principal of the Year by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals Association.
