What is PBIS?

PBIS is a research-based framework for teaching and supporting positive behaviors for ALLstudents.

This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe, positive environment in which all students can learn.

The benefits of implementing PBIS include:
Fewer behavioral issues
More instructional time
Better attendance for student success.

What can parents do to help their child stay on the path to positive behavior?

  • Review Haw Creek behavior expectations with their child.

  • Ask their child about their day at school.

  • Make sure their child is ready every day and arrives to school on time. Ensure a good night’s sleep.

  • Provide a quiet time and space for their child to do homework nightly.

  • Keep in touch with their child’s teacher.

  • Incorporate Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe into their family rules at home.

Growth Mindset

At Haw Creek we embrace the Growth Mindset model in our PBIS implementation.

A mindset is the self-perception that people have about themselves. There are two types of mindsets, fixed and growth. We want our students to have a growth mindset. In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. A growth mindset creates a love for learning, resilience and determination that are essential for growing in and out of the classroom. At Haw Creek we work hard to foster a growth mindset in each child as we believe that all children can accomplish great things!

Hawk Tickets!

Our Hawk Ticket System is our positive recognition component of Haw Creek PBIS. One of the vital parts of PBIS is giving students positive feedback and recognition when we see students exhibiting behaviors that we expect at Haw Creek.

Anytime during the day, if a staff member sees a student being respectful, responsible, or safe, the student can be given a Hawk ticket. Hawk tickets are put into a basket in the classroom and student names are drawn throughout the week. When a student’s name is drawn, they can then turn in that Hawk Ticket for a reward such as lunch with a friend or pajama day for example.
