Hispanic Heritage car rider reverse-parade at Glen Arden

Students at Glen Arden Elementary got to learn about the culture of Latin America during the car rider line in a “reverse parade,” where the students paraded by the teachers. All seven of Glen Arden’s Dual-Language Spanish Immersion teachers, part of the International Teacher Ambassadors program, participated. Teachers from Costa Rica wore flowing, poofy dresses called “Traje típico de Campesina,” the Peruvian teacher wore a peruvian hat called a “chullo” made out of llama wool, while Colombian teachers wore custom shirts with characters from the Barranquilla Carnival and a traditional dress to celebrate Porro and Fandango music.

“Students were very engaged in learning about the different Latin American countries the teachers come from,” said Anna Kain, second grade teacher at Glen Aren. “They asked lots of questions and were curious about flag colors, traditional dresses teachers were wearing, and animals they could see if they visited those countries.”
