Hi!  My name is Laurel Stolte, and I am excited to be principal at Oakley. For the past four years, I have had the honor to be part of our dedicated and diverse community as a mom. A little bit about me:
I grew up in east Tennessee and have been working as an educator for over 22 years. I have taught K-12 reading, English as a Second Language, Spanish, and social studies in Tennessee, Colorado, North Carolina, and Ecuador.   I have also worked with teachers to help them better support students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.  Before coming to Oakley, I was assistant principal at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary and taught and coordinated the dual language program at Southwest Elementary School in Durham.  Outside of school, I enjoy traveling and playing in the mountains with my two children. Eli is now at Reynolds Middle and Lucia is a 4th grader at Oakley.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Laurel Stolte, y estoy emocionada de ser la directora de Oakley. Por los últimos cuatro años, he tenido el honor de ser parte de esta comunidad tan dedicada y diversa como mamá. Como directora, espero trabajar juntos en la creación de una comunidad escolar segura y fuerte que nos permita a todos aprender, crecer y contribuir a nuestro mundo. Un poco acerca de mi:
Crecí en el este de Tennessee y he trabajado como educadora durante más de 22 años. He enseñado lectura, inglés como segundo idioma, español y estudios sociales en los grados K-12 en Tennessee, Colorado, Carolina del Norte y Ecuador. También he trabajado con maestros para ayudarlos a apoyar mejor a estudiantes de diversos orígenes culturales y lingüísticos. Antes de venir a Oakley, era subdirectora de la escuela Sand Hill-Venable y trabajaba como maestra y coordinadora del programa de doble inmersión en Southwest Elementary School en Durham. Fuera de la escuela, me gusta viajar y jugar en las montañas con mis dos hijos. Elias ya está en Reynolds Middle y Lucia está en 4to grado en Oakley.

I am very excited to be the assistant principal at Oakley Elementary School. Previously, I was the Reading Specialist at OES from 2016-2022. Before 2016 I taught in Haywood County in grades kindergarten, 1st and 4th.

I have been married for 30+ years and have two amazing children. Hannah graduated from UNC-Ch in English and Elijah graduated from NCSU in Computer Engineering. I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for both of them!

OES is the best place to be because of our amazing students, supportive families, incredible staff and caring community. As OAKS our children can achieve all their dreams!
