Ms. Erickson holds her blue bowl award surrounded by BCS teammates.

A Buncombe County Schools principal is being recognized for her work in building a strong school community.

Emily Erickson of Enka Intermediate has received the Game Changer Award from the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County. The honor is bestowed upon an individual or organization that embraces United Way’s community school strategy by demonstrating outstanding leadership and educational excellence. Ms. Erickson was selected for her deep commitment to student success, and ability to connect families with vital resources have made a lasting impact.

“The investment the whole school has in this model is part of what makes it so successful,” Ms. Erickson shared. “My job is to cultivate the environment so it can thrive. Being a United Way community school helps us supplement our families with resources, and ease the strain on families. We know that helps our students be better prepared to be successful in the classroom and community.”

Ms. Erickson received her award last month at the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County’s  Community Impact Awards. Congratulations!
