The Koontz team poses with their trophy and certificates.

🎉📖🏆 Big news! Our Elementary Battle of the Books team WON the Regional Competition and is headed to the first-ever Elementary State Championship! Congratulations to Charles T. Koontz Intermediate School!

The Regional event was held at the Hazelwood Conference Center in Waynesville and brought together top teams from Henderson, Transylvania, Haywood, and Madison Counties, along with Evergreen Charter School.

Our students will proudly represent Western NC at the State Competition in Iredell County on May 9! We are so proud of their hard work, teamwork, and love of reading. Let’s cheer them on as they take the big stage!

Earlier this month, we held our district Battle of the Books competition at A.C. Reynolds High. The event was a true community effort, with high school students stepping up to help with snacks, room setup, food service, and more. A huge thank you to Principal Ben Alexander and Media Coordinator Leigh Armistead at Reynolds High for so graciously hosting us and helping make the day so special!

🎉 Congratulations to our top teams:
🥇 1st Place: Koontz Intermediate
🥈 2nd Place: Black Mountain Primary
🥉 3rd Place: Estes Elementary

We also held Battle of the Books Lite competition at the BCS Central Services building. The "Lite" competition is designed to introduce third through fifth graders to the excitement of Battle of the Books with just six selected books. It's a wonderful way to celebrate more readers and build excitement for the full competition in the future!

🎉 Here are this year’s winners:

Third Grade Battle of the Books Lite
🥇 1st Place: Black Mountain Primary
🥈 2nd Place: Glen Arden Elementary
🥉 3rd Place: Oakley Elementary

Fourth/Fifth Grade Battle of the Books Lite

We are so proud of all of our young readers and can’t wait to see their passion for books continue to grow!
