Seventh grade artists in Ms. Patti Lloyd’s class at Charles D. Owen Middle School recently explored creativity in a whole new light - literally. Through a special partnership with LEAF artist Tarah Singh, students dove into the art of self-portraiture, blending studies of light, color, and emotion to craft one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces.

Singh guided students through techniques that encourage them to see beyond the surface, capturing not just their faces but their personalities, passions, and stories. Singh guided students through the process, even introducing them to different mediums of vibrant hues and layered textures to bring their portraits to life.

The collaboration gave students the chance to express themselves in ways that were both personal and powerful. “Watching their confidence grow as they explored new materials and ideas was inspiring,” said Ms. Lloyd. “They learned that art isn’t just about what you see, it’s about what makes you feel.”

These stunning works will be on display at the LEAF Global Arts Festival this weekend, October 17-19, where the public can experience the creativity and individuality of these young artists firsthand.
