The Asheville Symphony welcomed fifth graders from Buncombe County Schools this spring for its annual Young People’s Concert, a lively and interactive event designed to introduce students to orchestral music.
This year’s performance featured a superhero theme, with a character named Fortissimo guiding the audience through a musical adventure to save music from the evil Dr. Dissonance. Students played an active role in the story helping Fortissimo regain his strength by identifying instruments and musical elements throughout the concert.
The Asheville Symphony Orchestra accompanied the entire narrated performance, using music to enhance the action and bring the characters to life. Students were encouraged to participate, making the experience both educational and entertaining.
The afternoon concluded with Fortissimo triumphing over Dr. Dissonance, a victory made possible by the students’ enthusiasm and growing musical knowledge.
The Young People’s Concert is part of the Asheville Symphony’s ongoing effort to foster music appreciation and arts education in local schools.
