Erwin High School Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Lacey Davis from has been named the runner up for the 2026 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year.

She was surprised at a special gathering in Greensboro last night hosted by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT). Ms. Davis was joined by BCS Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson, Career and Technical Education Director Michele Smith, Erwin High School principal Stanley Wheless, and her sister, Kady Rice, who is also a CTE teacher at Erwin High.

As we shared earlier this year, Ms. Davis was selected as a finalist in June. Last night’s announcement concluded a special NCCAT leadership summit she attended with the other finalists. Ms. Davis was celebrated for excellence in teaching, helping students achieve numerous credentials, collaborating with teachers throughout her school, and partnering with business and education partners in the community.

Thank you, Ms. Davis, for your leadership and representing the powerful work of Career and Technical Education! See video of the surprise announcement here.
