Our BCS Transportation teams have been out again early this morning monitoring travel conditions. Due to additional light snowfall overnight and continuing weather impacts to some secondary roads across the county, all Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Tuesday Feb. 24, 2026…except for the North Buncombe District only, which will be closed, due to more severe weather impacts in the Weaverville and Barnardsville areas.

Breakfast in the districts going to school on a two hour delay will be served to students when they arrive at school.

While conditions are forecast to improve with warmer temperatures today, BCS Transportation teams will continue to assess conditions. We will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule.

Good morning, BCS families.

Due to overnight snowfall impacting travel all across the county and temperatures expected to stay well below freezing throughout the day, for the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff members, all Buncombe County Schools will be closed today, Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

As we have shared, state calendar law limits the school system to only 5 remote learning days per school year. We have used all of those days. Therefore, today is not a remote learning day for students. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday.

Please stay safe, and have a good day.

As the trailblazer team we have been planning events for our student body and have received mixed results on attendance and engagement. Therefore, this year we decided to get our ideas straight from the source! If an event does not have the input from our student body then we will plan something on its behalf. As we want all our school wide events to be fun for all to enjoy! We ask you to take time to share your input, your voice is important to our Trailblazer Student team as we plan for the spring semester at BCEC and BCCI.

Due to the continued snowfall across the county and worsening road conditions, for the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff members, all Buncombe County Schools will now be closed today, Thursday Feb. 5, 2026. State calendar law limits the school system to only 5 remote learning days per school year and unfortunately, we have used all of them. Therefore, today is not a remote learning day for students. Students may choose to use this time to complete work from earlier this week.

Our BCS Transportation crews have been out surveying roads early this morning. Due to light winter precipitation again last night, Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour for students today, Thursday Feb. 5, 2026. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start will give DOT crews time to work, and allow for travel with more daylight.

Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school.

BCS Transportation teams are continuing to assess conditions, and we will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule.

Be safe, and have a good day.

Good afternoon, BCS Families.

We want to share an announcement about school tomorrow, as well as schedule adjustments for next week.

While road conditions continue to improve, there are still many ice-covered secondary roads across the county. For the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff, Buncombe County Schools will operate on a Remote Learning/Optional Teacher Workday Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.

With the loss of three in-person learning days this week, BCS is making adjustments to next week’s calendar to provide our students time together with their teachers in school. Thursday, Feb. 12 will now be a full school day for students, instead of an early dismissal day. Friday, Feb. 13 will also be a regular student day, instead of an optional teacher workday. Weather permitting, we hope to have a normal school schedule Monday through Friday of next week.

For tomorrow’s remote learning, teachers will post assignments in learning management systems by 10 am, or may have sent paper packets home with students. Students will have up to 5 school days to complete assignments. Once they do, they’ll be counted present for the day/class period.

Lunch for the day will be available to eat in the cafeteria from noon to 1:00 pm at the following locations: AC Reynolds Middle School, Black Mountain Primary, Emma Elementary, Estes Elementary, Leicester Elementary, North Windy Ridge Intermediate, and Candler Elementary. Students are able to eat at no charge at any of the above locations, and parents can purchase a meal for $5.25.

Stay safe, and have a good evening!

Good morning, BCS teammates and families.

Due to updated forecasts of accumulating snow starting earlier than first expected, and road temperatures already falling into the 20s, Buncombe County Schools will dismiss students 2 hours early today, Friday Jan. 30, 2026. Buses will begin their routes, student drivers will be allowed to leave, and parents who pick up their students after school will need to do so 2 hours earlier than normal. Because of the length of their bus routes, this schedule change will allow all of our buses to get students home and be back at schools and off of the roads by 3:45, ensuring the safety of our students and our bus drivers. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Buncombe County beginning at 4 p.m.

Students will be served lunch before leaving.

We also want to let parents of car riders know your child will be safe and supervised at school until you arrive.

Stay safe, and have a nice weekend.

Early Dismissal

As our entire area is now under a winter storm warning for this weekend, BCS has made the difficult decision to once again shift plans for our Mid-Year Graduation ceremony. With accumulating snow in the forecast, we will not be holding our ceremony downtown on Saturday, Jan. 31 in order to keep our graduates, families, and staff safe.

Each of our high schools will schedule its own special ceremony to honor our mid-year graduates. These celebrations will allow schools to recognize the hard work, resilience, and accomplishments of each student in a more personal and meaningful setting. Principals will share details about their ceremonies in the coming days.

We are incredibly proud of our mid-year graduates and all they have achieved. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to celebrate this important milestone in a way that is both safe and memorable.

Good evening, BCS Families.

Our transportation crews have been back out on the roads assessing conditions across the county. Due to persistent patches of wintry accumulation, including black ice on several secondary roads in parts of the area, the Reynolds and Roberson districts of Buncombe County Schools, including the PEP Program, will operate on a 2-hour delay for students Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026. This delayed start gives DOT crews extra time to treat problem areas, and allows for travel with more daylight. All other BCS districts are on a regular schedule. Buses will not travel on icy roads

Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school.

Again, this is a 2-hour delay for only the Reynolds and Roberson districts, including the PEP Program, for Wednesday. All other BCS districts are on a regular schedule. Transportation teams will continue to monitor travel conditions, and we will update you should we need to further alter Wednesday’s school schedule.

Be safe, and have a good night.
