Buncombe County Schools is celebrating the accomplishments of its National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT). At the June Board of Education meeting, BCS recognized newly certified teachers along with teachers, counselors, and administrators who have renewed their certification.
To receive certification, teachers build a portfolio that demonstrates mastery of their subject, methods of teaching diverse learners, and building outstanding learning environments.
“It’s no small feat, and a great sacrifice teachers make for their students,” said Phil Justen, the NBCT coordinator for Buncombe County Schools. “Ultimately, it’s our students who are the biggest benefactors from learning from these teacher leaders.”
Buncombe County Schools now has 296 National Board Certified teachers. Newly certified teachers include:
