Students on stage singing with the KONO band.

The rhythm of West Africa echoed through the halls of Buncombe County Schools as LEAF Global Arts brought the high-energy sounds of the KONO band to middle schools across the district, including a special stop at A.C. Reynolds Middle School (ACRMS).

Seventh graders at ACRMS didn’t just watch the performance - they became part of it.

With drums pulsing and melodies filling the room, students were invited on stage to join the band, creating an unforgettable, hands-on cultural experience. Laughter and excitement spread as students learned traditional rhythms, moved to the beat, and experienced music as a universal language that connects people across the world.

The KONO band’s visit was more than a performance - it was an opportunity for students to engage, explore, and celebrate global culture in a way that was both interactive and inspiring.

From the first beat to the final bow, the experience left a lasting impression, reminding students that music has the power to bring people together.
