First grade students at North Buncombe Elementary School were treated to a fairytale-inspired learning experience during the school’s Cinderella Day, held as part of its Wit & Wisdom curriculum.
The celebration was the culmination of a literature unit focused on the Cinderella story as told in cultures around the world. Throughout the unit, students read and discussed six versions of the tale, including “Cinderella,” “The Rough-Face Girl,” “Bigfoot Cinderella,” “The Korean Cinderella,” “Cendrillon,” and “Adelita.”
On Cinderella Day, students dressed as princes and princesses and rotated through activity stations representing each cultural retelling of the story. Activities included learning to waltz, decorating rain sticks, storytelling, creating paper crafts, and enjoying themed treats such as chocolate ice cream and handmade tortillas.
The day ended with smiles, laughter, and memories that will stay with students long after the last page was turned.
