The Week in Review
Every day, BCS students learn through exploration, engage the community, and prepare for tomorrow. Our Week in Review brings you these stories of educational achievement and success in Buncombe County Schools.
Our Principal of the Year: Mr. Brian Chandler
Principal Brian Chandler was with his students in the West Buncombe Elementary cafeteria when a group of administrators, principals, and staff charged into the room with balloons and a news crew! It was a surprise announcement that Mr. Chandler was chosen as our new 2019 Buncombe County Schools Principal of the Year! Congratulations, Mr. Chandler, on a job well done. Our students and teachers are fortunate to have you.
View the popular Facebook Live video of the announcement below, read our full Top Story at BuncombeSchools.org, watch the WLOS feature, or view the Leicester Leader video on social media.
A Message from Our Superintendent
In this special message, we'll hear from BCS superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin about just some of the many exciting plans we have prepared for the upcoming school year. Dr. Baldwin talks about important topics such as the 1:1 ("one-to-one") Digital Initiative, Spanish Immersion/Dual Language classes, school safety, and more.

County Teacher of the Year Recognized by Commissioners
Our current 2018 BCS Teacher of the Year, Ms. Beth Love of A.C. Reynolds High School, was honored by Buncombe County's Commissioners at tonight’s meeting in downtown Asheville! Ms. Love will be part of the festivities surrounding this week's upcoming announcement of the new 2019 Teacher of the Year.
Enka High Staff Flash Mob (Video)
It was already a fun and energetic pep rally, but suddenly, all of the teachers and staff surprised the Enka High School students by turning the gym into a dance floor and busting a move! What a fun way to start the school year.

Community Rallies to Help Teacher Fight Cancer (WLOS)
Buncombe County Schools' ESL Coach Barbara Gulick "is benefiting from her generous coworkers who are giving her the gift of time."
Owen Warlassies' Tennis (Citizen-Times)
"Three matches, three wins. That’s where the Owen High School girls’ tennis team stood last week heading into an Aug. 30 contest against Smoky Mountain."
Lights, Camera, Football at Erwin High
At Clyde A. Erwin High School, a camera crew weaved in and out of practice formations with their shoulder-mounted cameras, gimbals, and microphones. Erwin is one of just three schools nationwide to be featured in a Xenith series called Athlete Stories.
Reynolds Volleyball Wins Big (WLOS)
"An early September match between West Henderson and A.C. Reynolds had the feel of playoff volleyball. The Rockets entered play Thursday with a pristine 9-0 record while West stood at 13-1, but undefeated in Western Mountain Athletic Conference play."
