Summer's Finally Here!
Our students have worked hard this school year and they are ready for summer break! Here's a look at how several schools finished the year off by holding end-of-year celebrations, playing games, giving awards, and saying goodbye to teachers and friends!

North Buncombe Middle's Serafina Sneak Peek
The Blackhawks were visited by New York Times best-selling author Robert Beatty, the creator of the popular "Serafina" book series. During his visit, students had an early glimpse of the yet-to-be-released novel, "Serafina and the Splintered Heart." Mr. Beatty read the first chapter aloud as students gathered among the book shelves of their school media center.

En Memoria de Alex y Milena
Local artists on Thursday have dedicate a memorial bench at Oakley Elementary School to honor two children who tragically lost their lives in an automobile accident last year. Never Stop Learning at Avery's Creek
As reported by WLOS ABC 13 in their latest "Never Stop Learning" segment: Before school ends for summer break, Mrs. Green's third-grade students at Avery's Creek Elementary wrote letters to incoming third-graders, telling them what they can expect in the coming school year.

Seventh Grade Rocket Science
Next time you have some used paper towel tubes and a cereal box, consider building a rocket ship! Does this sound out a little too out-of-this-world? That’s exactly what over 200 seventh grade students did at Valley Springs Middle School this week, and as a continuation of a roughly 40 year tradition, they blasted them off one at a time over their ball field.

Girl Scouts' Gold Award for Owen's Zeigler
Laural Zeigler, a senior at Charles D. Owen High School, has earned a Gold Award from the Girl Scouts! Part of the requirement for this award was to complete a service project, so Zeigler created a comic book to teach younger students about math! Weaverville Collects 3,000 Books for Summer Reading
Students at Weaverville Elementary School are reaping the benefits of what started out as a student's spring cleaning project! More than 3,000 books are up for grabs in the gym, and the school hopes the books will help students retain what they've learned this year.
