Buncombe County Schools students saw a wide range of choices during the first-ever College and Career Fair, organized in collaboration with Asheville City Schools, Madison County Schools, and AB Tech.
As they walked the floor of the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville, high school students saw product demonstrations and heard pitches from enthusiastic company officials – from the medical field to the U.S. Military to NASA. The students listened intently at each table, and as they toured the aisles of the fair, it became clear that the future is wide open.
“Students today learn about careers very differently than most of us did when we were looking for our first job,” said BCS Career and Technical Education (CTE) director Crystal Cheek. “So providing them a personalized experience with community partners allows them to learn first-hand about the incredible opportunities that are literally in their backyards.”
BCS believes that when students know about their higher education and career options, they can make more informed choices for their tomorrow.
