BCS Improving Security Across District

Buncombe County Schools is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Over the past year, BCS has installed secure video buzz-in doors and expanded surveillance systems across the district. This spring, BCS teamed up with Asheville City Schools (ACS) to hire TRC Consulting, a nationally recognized provider of security solutions. The company is touring every BCS and ACS campus and interviewing staff and parents; they'll conduct comprehensive assessments ranging from exterior and interior security to classroom procedures. From these assessments, TRC will make prioritized recommendations for security improvements.

“Providing a safe and engaging learning environment that prepares students for their tomorrow is our number one priority,” said BCS Assistant Superintendent Joseph Hough. "We are looking forward to this collaboration with TRC to ensure that Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools campuses are as safe and secure as possible. TRC will bring best practices and innovations from around the nation to be implemented in our two school systems."

TRC plans to finish assessing our campuses and making recommendations by the end of 2019.

BCS continues to dedicate enormous resources, including funds and staff time, to improve safety and security in all of our schools. We will continue to adapt and proactively address evolving security issues.
