Buncombe County high schoolers participated in a unique career fair held on A.B. Tech’s campus on Friday, April 22nd. The fair, organized by the BCS Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department, featured a wide variety of employers from the area; students could learn more about everything from summer jobs to lifelong careers. Students were given a “passport” to get stamped at each booth, many of which were decked out with tools of the trade or promotional items.
Booths included the Asheville Restaurant Association, various departments of Buncombe County Government, hotels, electrical and plumbing companies, cyber security, aviation, graphic design and printing, textiles, adventure camps, military, EMS, and various colleges. With over 80 organizations represented, all 400 students who attended were exposed to a variety of possibilities.
“Some students are actually leaving today with summer employment,” said CTE director Taylor Baldwin. “Others now have contacts with companies for employment beyond the summer as well. Everyone was able to be exposed to a wide range of career opportunities, and I’m really happy with how the community came together.”
