Army Honors Buncombe Schools for Hurricane Help

Uniformed representatives of the U.S. Department of the Army paid a visit to the BCS Board of Education today to present a special thank you message. During recent efforts to serve the community during Hurricane Florence flooding, the Army needed space to store military vehicles for staging. Buncombe County Schools was proud to have the opportunity to meet this need, providing school campuses for staging support. Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin (pictured) greeted the soldiers to accept an award on behalf of the Board of Education.

"This is a great example of community partnership," said Assistant Superintendent Mr. Joseph Hough, also a 30-year National Guardsman and lieutenant colonel. "When we are out for snow or hurricane type events, helping the National Guard in return helps our parents and students get supports they need - ultimately getting us back into school and on our way again."

A framed plaque praised the Buncombe County Board of Education "for exceptional support and dedication during Hurricane Florence."

The plaque also reads, "The 105th Military Police Battalion proudly recognizes your tireless devotion to provide support and assistance to our soldiers through the duration of Hurricane Florence's impact on North Carolina from September 11, 2018 - September 20, 2018."
