Buncombe County Schools proudly presents the virtual performances of the 2020-21 intermediate and advanced All-County Orchestra ensembles.

This spring, 72 middle and high school orchestra students collaborated remotely and in-person to learn two challenging musical pieces. The Intermediate Ensemble recorded “Butterflies on the Breeze” by composer Anne Svendsen, and the Advanced Ensemble recorded “Cliffs of Moher” by composer Susan H. Day.

"A virtual All-County festival was important this year to help students feel connected with each other and music during remote and hybrid learning,” explained Elizabeth Terry, Director of String Orchestras at C.T. Koontz Intermediate, Valley Springs Middle, and T.C. Roberson High schools. “This experience provided a meaningful way for students and teachers to collaborate and make music together.“

Students submitted their recordings after lessons and sectional rehearsals with strings teachers in class and through the Zoom application. Terry edited the two final performances that were shared publicly on Friday, May 21.

“We’re proud of our students for working hard on the technical aspects of each piece, as well as conveying musicality through these recordings,” she added.

The 2021 All-County Orchestra ensembles involve students from the following programs:

• Enka High School, Enka Middle School (Director: Paul Zinke)
