Buncombe County Schools is pleased to announce the opening of the 2021 All-County Virtual Art Show exhibiting visual art from kindergarteners through twelfth-graders.

Please join us in celebrating the creativity, expression, and visual language of our students. The show will be accessible from the district website (above) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 20.

“This show highlights the resiliency of our students and how art serves as not only an outlet of safe expression, but a form of communication,” said BCS Arts Education Specialist Laura Mitchell. “Our visual culture is all around us, driven by images on our phones, laptops, TVs, billboards, and publications. It is more important than ever for our students to learn how to be visually literate as we continue to navigate this visual world, sharing ideas and creating beauty.”

Mitchell explained that creating art was particularly challenging for students this year due to the pandemic. In remote and hybrid learning settings, materials at home were limited and art instruction often took place online. Students were required to think even more creatively about reaching their artistic goals and their efforts are to be commended.

Thanks to the many BCS visual art teachers who contributed to the creation of this virtual gallery. We hope you enjoy this virtual celebration of art in Buncombe County!
