Buncombe County Schools is
currently enrolling at all grade levels for the 2022-23 school year!
At Buncombe County Schools, we believe:
1) Education is the best means to a better future for each individual child and for the community.
2) Every child deserves the opportunities that education provides, regardless of their background or needs.
Everyone is welcome.
3) Every child has potential and deserves
teachers of the highest quality who can unlock that potential.
4) Education is more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. It is preparation for the jobs of tomorrow. It is social and emotional development. It is the pursuit of completion and self-actualization. It is the love of learning itself, a renewable resource that makes the world a better place.
Our schools are owned by the people, managed by the people, and accountable to the people. Teachers, administrators, and support staff work together to ensure every child receives their constitutionally guaranteed right to a rigorous education.
Like all quality schools, BCS schools provide a strong grounding in literacy, mathematics, social studies, and physical fitness. From kindergarten to graduation, BCS schools teach the whole child, with a
model of resiliency for social-emotional health and character education. Our community schools offer rigorous, enriching art and music experiences from professional educators who know how to make imaginations bloom. Dual Language Spanish Immersion classes build bilingual and biliterate students who can navigate a globally minded society.
Outdoor classrooms,
STEM Labs, modernized media centers, and field trips help students connect their classroom learning to real-world applications.
Academically and Intellectually Gifted programs, Advanced Placement courses, and dual enrollment courses at A-B Tech Community College are available to students who want to tackle challenging subjects. BCS also features a
STEM high school for students who seek careers in the hard sciences and an
early college on A-B Tech’s campus for students who want to get ahead by graduating from high school with an associate degree.
The
BCS Virtual Academy is a continuing solution for students in grades 6-12 who thrive in an online learning environment with a flexible schedule. It’s perfect for students with jobs, travel plans, or life circumstances that make full-time, on-campus enrollment difficult. It’s also a great choice for homeschooling families who want the benefits of a rigorous course of study, local teachers, and personalized instruction. Full enrollment in the Virtual Academy is free for families residing in the BCS school district if enrolled in two or more courses.
Starting in middle school, students explore how they can continue their education after high school. School counselors help each student find their best fit based on education and career goals, learning style, and personal preferences.
