BCS Counselors are hard at work this semester rolling out a new and innovative way to help students with college and career planning. Naviance is a platform that integrates research, resources, and relevant information into one space to help students explore their options after high school.

“Buncombe County Schools chose Naviance as part of its district-wide commitment to developing college- and career-ready graduates by ensuring equitable access, closing opportunity gaps, and reaching educational equity in their community,” said BCS Naviance coordinator Suzanne Gavenus.

Among its features, the platform provides tools to explore a postsecondary path that is a best-fit for the student, based on education and career goals, learning style, and personal preferences regarding where and how they would like to continue their education.

“Naviance is an award-winning platform that offers tremendous access to important college and career preparation materials,” Gavenus said. “All BCS students in grades 8-12 have equal access to the tools they may use to find out more about themselves and find out about the vast opportunities that are available to them after graduation.”

The training and roll-out are ongoing and thus far Naviance has been rolled out to 8th graders and seniors, with plans underway to introduce to 9th-11th graders. Naviance can help students research careers, colleges, and scholarships all in one place, saving valuable time. As we celebrate College Application Week, using Naviance, our students have been able to seamlessly manage the college application process as they apply to a variety of colleges including NC State, Appalachian State, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“There are so many opportunities for college and career exploration, and Naviance is the most comprehensive tool that brings it all together, allowing teachers, counselors, parents, and students to work together towards making a student's dream come true,” Gavenus said.
